INTENDED USE

This kit is intended for in vitro qualitative detection of Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) nucleic acid in human oropharyngeal swabs specimens.

The main clinical symptoms of Respiratory syncytial virus infection are nasal congestion, sinusitis, expectoration, expiratory wheezing, air stagnation, a tapering or flared nose, subcostal indentation and even cyanosis. Fever is not the main symptom of RSV infection, and only nearly 50% of pediatric patients have moderately elevated body temperature, and both signs of bronchiolitis and pneumonia may appear at the same time. RSV infection in adults has mild or no symptoms, but it can cause more severe infections in the elderly or immunodeficient patients.

Respiratory syncytial virus belongs to the family Paramyxoviridae, the genus Pneumovirus, and its genome is a single-stranded negative-stranded RNA virus, which can be divided into two subtypes, A and B. Respiratory syncytial virus circulates repeatedly every year, and patients can be repeatedly infected. The main mode of transmission is contact with objects contaminated by respiratory secretions.

This kit is suitable for the auxiliary diagnosis of RSV infection, clinical correlation with patient history and other diagnostic information is necessary to determine patient infection status. Positive results do not rule out bacterial infection or co-infection with other viruses. The agent detected may not be the definite cause of disease. Negative results must be combined with clinical observations, patient history, and epidemiological information to make decision.

This kit is intended for use by qualified and trained clinical laboratory personnel specifically instructed and trained in the techniques of real-time PCR and in vitro molecular diagnostic procedures.

This kit is for in vitro diagnostic use only.
