This kit is intended for in vitro qualitative detection of Human Coxsackie virus A16 (CA16) nucleic acid in human oropharyngeal swabs specimens.

CA16 is the main pathogen causing Hand-mouth-foot disease (HFMD) in children. It is usually accompanied by Human Enterovirus 71 and is more common in children under 5 years old. The clinical symptoms of CA16 infection are erythema, papules and small blisters on the hands and feet of the child patient, accompanied by ulcers on the tongue and oral mucosa.

Human Coxsackie virus belongs to the family Picornaviridae, the genus Enterovirus, and is the causative agent of many human diseases. The 30 known serotypes of the virus were divided into groups A (A1-A24) and B (B1-B6) according to the pathogenic characteristics of the virus to suckling mice and the different susceptibility to cells. CA16 is the main cause of HFMD outbreaks.
